| Sericulture Department, organises Exposure Visit at KVK Reasi | | |  Early Times Report
REASI, Dec 17: The Department of Sericulture, Reasi organised exposure visit under HADP project here today at KVK Reasi which was attended by a number of farmers from different blocks of Reasi distt. of J&K. The visit was organised under the dynamic leadership of Vice Chancellor, Prof. B.N. Tripathi and able guidance of Director Extension, Prof. Amrish Vaid of SKUAST-J.
The visit was co-ordinated by the District Sericulture Officer, Reasi, Rajiv Gupta. Dr. Banarsi Lal, Chief Scientist & Head KVK Reasi warmly welcomed the participants and briefed about the objectives of the visit. He said that the objective of the exposure visit is to create awareness and impart skills and knowledge among the farmers with the latest sericulture rearing techniques so that the income and socio-economic status of farmers can be improved.
He spoke in detail on the scientific cocoon production and also guided farmers on the mulberry plants cultivation. He discussed on the nutrition management in mulberry crop and suggested some improved varieties of mulberry for the commercial cultivation of silkworms.
Dr. Arvinder Kumar stressed on the commercial rearing of silkworms for more farm returns. He said that farmers can generate more income and employment by the adoption of scientific rearing of silkworms. Sanjeev Kumar, incharge Katra and an expert from Sericulture Department delivered valuable lecture on the rearing of silkworms and discussed in detail in disease management in sericulture. He also elaborated the nutrition management and hygienic management in silkworms farming. An exhibition showcasing the various technologies were also arranged for the participants. Farmers visited various units at KVK Reasi and they were highly impressed by observing the results of demonstrated technologies. All the participants took keen interest during the visit and thanked KVK Reasi and Department of Sericulture for conducting such a useful exposure visit. |
