| Arvind Gupta visits Ajit Colony, assures swift relief to residents of Ward 32 | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 9: The MLA of Jammu West, Arvind Gupta, on Friday visited Ward No. 32, Ajit Colony, to take stock of the long-standing problems related to damaged lanes and an inefficient drainage system that has caused severe hardship to residents for years. He was accompanied by Deputy Mayor Dharamveer Singh, former Sarpanch Pritpal Singh, and Mandal President Anil Angral, along with senior officers of the Irrigation Department. During the visit, the MLA personally inspected Lane No. 5 and other affected areas where residents have been living in unhygienic conditions for nearly 13 years due to waterlogging, open drains, and overflowing canal water. A canal passing through the locality, which supplies water to farmers for irrigation, frequently overflows because of poor maintenance, flooding residential lanes and making daily movement extremely difficult. Interacting with locals including Geeta Sodhi, Nitin, and other residents, Arvind Gupta expressed concern over their suffering and acknowledged that the situation has been neglected for far too long. "I understand the pain and frustration of the people here. No one should be forced to live in such conditions for years. We are committed to finding a permanent solution," he said. Gupta directed the Executive Engineer on the spot to immediately prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the improvement of lanes and drainage in the area. The AEE and JE were also present and were instructed to ensure that the technical work is completed without delay. The MLA pointed out that the area falling partly under the Jammu Municipal Corporation and partly under the Panchayat has led to administrative delays and confusion. "This overlapping of jurisdictions has affected development, but we will now coordinate with all concerned departments to ensure that the work moves forward smoothly," he stated. Reassuring the residents, Gupta said that his office will closely monitor the progress. "The people of Ajit Colony deserve dignity, cleanliness, and basic civic facilities. We will ensure that this long-pending issue is resolved at the earliest," he added. Residents welcomed the visit and expressed hope that the long-awaited relief would now finally become a reality. |
