Pak drone activity along IB, LoC puts Jammu border villages on alert

Jammu, Jan 12: Although alert troops thwarted the enemy’s attempts on Sunday evening, tension gripped several parts of the Jammu province after Pakistani drones were detected intruding into multiple forward areas along the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LoC) in Samba, Rajouri and Poonch districts.
An uneasy calm prevails in villages close to the IB and LoC, with fear and uncertainty spreading among border residents amid what they describe as renewed hostile activity from across the border.
Villagers said that after Operation Sindoor, this was the first time they had seen Pakistani drones in their area. Villagers observed that Pakistan has once again started activities along the border.
Villagers said that multiple drones hovered on the Indian side of the border for a few minutes on Sunday evening. Villagers remained awake through the night, watching movements from across the border.
Reports said Indian forces opened fire in the Nowshera sector of Rajouri to bring down a drone, following which the Pakistani Army allegedly targeted Indian positions. While officials confirmed the drone intrusion, there has been no official military confirmation of retaliatory firing from the Pakistani side.
According to officials, all drones entered Indian airspace from Pakistan and returned after hovering over Indian territory for brief periods.
Sources said drones were sighted near Baba Khori and Ganya villages along the LoC in the Nowshera sector. Indian Army personnel fired from positions near both villages, and when the drone continued to hover, anti-drone systems were activated and additional shots were fired. The drone later crossed back into Pakistani territory. During this period, the Pakistani Army reportedly opened fire at Indian posts.

This marks the third instance of Pakistani drone intrusion in the Jammu division in the past three days. On Friday night, security forces recovered arms dropped by a drone in Palura village near Ghagwal in Samba, including two pistols, three magazines, 16 rounds of ammunition and a grenade.
the firing from across the border continued for about 10 minutes. A bullet struck the tin shed of a house in Ganya village, though no one was injured. The village is located around one-and-a-half kilometres from the Zero Line, and an Indian Army post situated nearby was also targeted.
Meanwhile, another drone was spotted in Khabbar village in Tarayat area of Rajouri. An official said the drone, fitted with a flashing light, entered from Dharamsal village in Kalakot and moved towards Bharakh village. Security forces launched an extensive search operation after tracking the drone’s movement, and ground security was immediately strengthened.
In Poonch district, residents also recorded drone activity on their mobile phones. A drone was spotted around 6:25 pm in the Mankot sector along the LoC, flying at a considerable height, according to eyewitnesses.
A drone with a blinking light hovered over Chak Babaral village in the Ramgarh sector of Samba district on Friday evening. Eyewitnesses said it remained in Indian airspace for about two to three minutes before returning to Pakistan. Security agencies and the Border Security Force were alerted, and surveillance across the border belt was intensified. No arms or suspicious material were reported to have been dropped, and a high alert has been issued in the area.

Earlier the same day, a spy drone fitted with 12 cameras was recovered in the RS Pura sector of Jammu district. Additionally, a suspicious pigeon was caught in Kharah village of the Akhnoor sector.
