Jammu, Jan 18: Jammu (Rural) Police achieved a significant success under the jurisdiction of Police Station Akhnoor by arresting a notorious drug peddler and recovering a chitta like narcotic substance during routine patrolling and naka checking at Old Bridge, Akhnoor.
During naka checking, a *motorcycle bearing registration number JK02DL-9671,* coming from the Ambarain side towards Akhnoor, was noticed by the police party. On noticing the police naka, the motorcyclist attempted to flee from the spot in a suspicious manner, which immediately raised suspicion.
Acting swiftly, the alert police party, headed by *PSI Zahid Ahmed Ganai* along with other officials of Police Station Akhnoor, successfully apprehended the motorcyclist. Upon questioning, the individual failed to provide any satisfactory explanation for his attempt to flee.
During the personal search of the apprehended person, *a chitta like narcotic substance weighing approximately 6 grams* was recovered from his possession. On further enquiry, the accused disclosed his identity as *Ajay Singh S/o Balbir Singh, R/o Ambarain, Akhnoor.*
The recovered contraband was seized on the spot in accordance with due legal procedures in the presence of a Magistrate. In this regard, *FIR No. 12/2026 under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Akhnoor,* and further investigation has been initiated. The investigation has been entrusted to PSI Rafiq Ahmed Rather of Police Station Akhnoor.
During the course of investigation, police teams are actively working to establish both backward and forward linkages of the seized narcotic substance, including identification of the source of procurement, supply chain, and intended recipients. Raids are being conducted, and further arrests are likely. |
