KATHUA, Jan 21: As part of the ongoing National Road Safety Month activities, the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) Kathua today organised a Road Safety Awareness-cum-Medical Check-up Camp for drivers and conductors of commercial vehicles at the Mini Bus Stand, Kathua. The camp was aimed at sensitising commercial vehicle operators about safe driving practices and ensuring their physical fitness for road duties. A large number of drivers and conductors participated in the programme and availed themselves of free medical check-ups. Officials of the Motor Vehicles Department educated participants on the importance of following traffic rules, wearing seat belts, avoiding overspeeding and drunk driving, and maintaining proper vehicle fitness to prevent road accidents. Special emphasis was laid on defensive driving and responsible behaviour on roads. A team of doctors conducted health examinations including blood pressure, vision and general fitness tests of the drivers and conductors. The initiative was appreciated by the transport fraternity, who termed it a positive step towards improving road safety. The MVD Kathua reiterated its commitment to promoting a culture of safe driving and reducing road accidents through continuous awareness and enforcement drives across the district. Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Kathua, while addressing drivers and conductors during a medical camp, stressed the importance of maintaining good health and physical fitness for safe driving. He said that a healthy driver is essential for safe vehicle operation and the safety of passengers as well as other road users. |
