LPU emerged as India's top-ranked University in THE subject wise rankings 2026

JALANDHAR, Jan 31: Lovely Professional University (LPU), one of India's leading higher education institutions, has recorded a strong performance in the 2026 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject, securing the top position in India across three major subject areas. The university ranked No. 1 in India in Social Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Business & Economics, establishing a new benchmark for academic excellence in the country.
LPU ranked 1st in India and 201-250 globally in Social Sciences, surpassing the University of Delhi, Aligarh Muslim University, Banaras Hindu University, Jamia Millia Islamia, Jawaharlal Nehru University, and Panjab University. In Physical Sciences, LPU also secured 1st rank in India with a 201-250 global band, outperforming institutions such as IIT Indore, IIT Patna, Delhi Technological University, IIIT Hyderabad, IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Mandi, and IIT Ropar. In Business and Economics, LPU achieved 1st rank in India with a 301-400 global band, ahead of the University of Delhi, Aligarh Muslim University, Jamia Millia Islamia, Banaras Hindu University, and Delhi Technological University.
In Engineering, LPU ranked 2nd in India with a 251-300 global band, surpassing several IITs, IIIT Hyderabad, Delhi Technological University, and numerous NITs. In Medical and Health Sciences, LPU secured 3rd rank in India with a 301-400 global band, ahead of Jamia Millia Islamia and Aligarh Muslim University. The university also featured strongly in Computer Science, ranking 6th in India with a 401-500 global band, and in Life Sciences, ranking 7th in India with a 401-500 global band, outperforming multiple IITs and other public universities.

The World University Rankings by subjects 2026 are based on a comprehensive evaluation of 18 performance indicators grouped into five core areas: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, International Outlook, and Industry. The evaluation criteria ensure that the rankings reflect the full breadth of an institution's strengths and contributions across teaching, research, and industry impact. LPU's ability to improve its ranking year on year is a clear indicator of the effectiveness of its strategy to provide an internationally competitive education while making substantial contributions to research and development.
