Jammu, Feb 15: An awkward moment involving Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir has gone viral after he was briefly stopped by security personnel at the Munich Security Conference in Germany over the positioning of his identity card. Munir was attending the high-profile global security forum in Munich along with his delegation when the minor but widely noticed exchange took place near the venue’s entry point. A video clip circulating on social media shows a security official asking the Pakistani Army Chief to ensure that his identification badge was clearly visible from the front. In the footage, the officer is seen tapping his own name badge and gesturing toward the ID card hanging from Munir’s neck, saying, “Can you turn that around?” The brief interaction, which occurred just steps away from the conference entrance, has since drawn considerable attention online. Social media platforms were flooded with reactions, with critics seizing upon the moment and mocking the episode, suggesting it reflected poorly on Munir’s stature. Meanwhile, Munir’s participation in the Munich Security Conference has also sparked criticism from certain political and community leaders. Social media platforms were flooded with reactions, with critics seizing upon the moment and mocking the episode, suggesting it reflected poorly on Munir’s stature. Burfat, Chairman of the Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz (JSMM), strongly objected to Munir’s presence at global security forums in Europe, calling it an affront to communities he claims are facing repression within Pakistan. In a statement posted on X, Burfat alleged that Munir had placed Pakistan’s political system, judiciary, business sector, and media under military dominance and therefore could not credibly represent peace at international platforms. “His presence at global security forums in civilised societies such as Germany and across Europe is an insult to the historical nations that endure repression and occupation within Pakistan. It is tantamount to rubbing salt into the wounds of oppressed peoples,” Burfat said. He further accused Munir of being complicit in what he described as systematic persecution, enforced disappearances, torture, and extrajudicial killings involving Sindhis, Baloch, and Pashtuns — allegations that have been repeatedly denied by Pakistani authorities. The Munich Security Conference remains one of the world’s most prominent forums for discussions on global security and geopolitical challenges, regularly attended by heads of state, military leaders, and policy experts. |
