Early Times Report UDHAMPUR, Feb 21: The Department of Geography, Government College for Women (GCW) Udhampur organized a comprehensive field study tour to Kainth Gali, Udhampur under the visionary guidance of Principal Dr. Nalini Pathania. Principal Prof.Nalini Pathania complimented the department's efforts, emphasizing that such experiential learning is vital for the holistic development and scientific temperament of the students. The tour was specifically conducted for 49 students of B.A. Semester 4th (Major-2 Practical) to provide them with essential practical exposure to forest resources and regional biodiversity. Forests act as the Earth's biological "lungs and thermostat," serving as a critical defense against climate change through Carbon storage, oxygen prod and climate regulation. The educational expedition was led by Prof. Pooja Bharti (HOD, Geography), along with faculty members Dr. Poonam Bharti, Dr. Sanjana Sharma, and Miss Divya Sharma, who provided on-site academic demonstrations and supervised the data collection process. Supporting the logistical coordination of the trip was non-teaching staff member Balbir Singh. The journey was managed by Sanjay Kumar and Subash Chander, who worked together to handle all the driving and navigation. This initiative successfully bridged the gap between classroom theory and real-world geographical phenomena, allowing students to identify various forest types and understand the socio-economic importance of local natural resources . |
