REASI, Feb 25: Under the visionary leadership of Chairman District Legal Services Authority, Reasi (also Pr. District and Sessions Judge Reasi), Khalil Choudhary and the guidance of Secretary Pooja Gupta, a team of Para Legal Volunteers(PLVs) led by ALADC-Niharika Bamotra on Wednesday met under trial lodged at Police Station Reasi.
The ALADC listened to the grievances and legal issues of the inmates and provided necessary legal guidance and assistance. They were apprised about their legal rights, availability of free legal aid and the various services being provided by the Legal Services Authorities under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987. An awareness programme on "Child Labour and Old Age Pension Schemes" was organized at LAC Dewal B (Mahore). The PLVs elaborated on eligibility criteria, the application process and the benefits under the scheme.
A promotional event themed "Say No to Drugs" was held at Medical Centre Buttan, Katra. The PLVs highlighted the growing menace of substance abuse and its impact on families and society at large. The participants were informed about the provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the legal repercussions associated with drug-related offences.
Meanwhile, Para Legal Volunteers of DLSA organised an awareness Programme on "Right to Education" in Main Market Reasi. The programme was conducted with the objective of spreading awareness among the general public, shopkeepers, parents and youth about the fundamental Right to education as guaranteed under Article 21-A of the Constitution of India and the provisions of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009.
