Ambala, Mar 1: Maharishi Markandeshwar (Deemed to be University), in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS) and My Bharat, Ambala, successfully organized the District-Level Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament under the national initiative “Viksit Bharat Youth Connect.” The event witnessed enthusiastic participation of youth from the district and aimed at strengthening democratic consciousness among young citizens.
The programme brought together participants in the age group of 18–25 years for a simulated parliamentary session based on the powerful and thought-provoking theme, “50 Years of Emergency: Lessons to Indian Democracy.” The session focused on critical discussions around the historical context of the 1975–77 Emergency, protection of fundamental rights, constitutional values, and the resilience of Indian democratic institutions.
The event was graced by the Chief Guest, Dr. B.S. Reddy, Pro-Vice Chancellor, MMDU,who highlighted the importance of youth participation in democracy and encouraged students to become responsible, informed, and active citizens contributing to nation-building.
A distinguished panel of judges comprising Adv. Rakesh Mehta, Sh. Manjeet (ABVP), and MM(DU) faculty members Dr. Ritika Bansal, Dr. Deepak Gupta, and Dr. Divya Girdhar evaluated the participants on parameters such as oratory skills, leadership qualities, constitutional understanding, critical thinking, and policy analysis.
After intense deliberations and competitive parliamentary proceedings, five outstanding performers — Harleen Kaur, Hardik Sharma, Surya Pratap, Siya Sethi, and Parmeet Singh — were selected to represent the district at the State-Level Youth Parliament.
The programme concluded on a high note, reaffirming its objective of nurturing democratic values, constitutional awareness, and civic responsibility among the youth. The Youth Parliament emerged as a powerful platform for empowering young minds, strengthening democratic engagement, and preparing future leaders for responsible participation in the nation’s democratic processes.
