Jammu, Mar 1: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Sunday ordered the closure of all educational institutions in the Kashmir Valley for two days amid ongoing pro-Iran, anti-Israel, and anti-United States protests following the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Education Minister Sakina Itoo said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students. “We have decided to keep schools, colleges, and universities closed for two days,” Itoo said, adding that the government is closely monitoring the situation on the ground. She stated that a decision on reopening institutions would be taken only after a thorough assessment of the prevailing conditions. Notably, schools up to Class 8 were scheduled to reopen on Monday after a winter vacation of more than two months. Earlier, on February 23, schools for Classes 9 to 12 had resumed academic activities in the Kashmir division and winter zones of the Jammu division after a break of over 70 days. The winter vacation for students of Class 9 and above had been observed from December 11, 2025, to February 22, 2026. |
