Akhnoor, Mar 1: A meaningful community outreach under the nationwide flagship Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP)was organised today in Hamirpur (Pargwal) of Akhnoor sub-division. The programme was conducted under the able guidance of Ritika Trehan, Convenor, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Jammu & Kashmir, and led on ground by Anu Manhas, Convenor BBBP Akhnoor. The awareness session brought together parents, adolescent girls, teachers, ASHAs and Anganwadi workers for an open conversation on girls’ education, nutrition and dignity. Speakers underlined the importance of regular school attendance, early registration of births, institutional deliveries and zero tolerance for gender bias at home. Practical information was shared on scholarships, safety helplines and locally available health services, with school-level volunteers pledging to track dropouts and re-enrol them. Addressing participants, Ms Manhas said Hamirpur (Pargwal) reflects the spirit of BBBP beyond slogans—*communities ensuring that daughters study, thrive and lead*. She appreciated the Akhnoor team’s consistent outreach in border villages and encouraged local women champions to maintain neighbourhood watch-groups for attendance, nutrition follow-ups and safe mobility to schools. Ms Manhas thanked households for candid participation and affirmed that Akhnoor volunteers will continue mohalla-level dialogues in coming weeks. She noted that change flows from everyday choices—books over chores when possible, mid-day meals not missed, and panchayat support for repairing boundary walls and toilets so girls stay in school. The programme concluded with a pledge by families and school representatives to monitor attendance, promote equity in daily life, and celebrate girls’ milestones publicly—from exam success to sports and cultural participation—keeping the BBBP promise alive at the grassroots. |
