Jammu, Mar 7: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday credited the Narendra Modi-led Union Government with fulfilling several long-pending commitments on India's cultural and national identity, while inaugurating and laying the foundation stones of public welfare projects worth over Rs 1,132 crore in Haridwar, Uttarakhand.
Addressing a public gathering after the inauguration, Shah highlighted the abrogation of Article 370 from the Constitution, the enactment of the Citizenship Amendment Act for Hindu refugees, and the completion of the Ram Lalla temple in Ayodhya — a project the Hindu community had awaited for over 550 years — as landmark achievements of the current government.
He further noted that the sacred pilgrimage towns of Kedarnath Dham and Badrinath Dham have been fully redeveloped, and that the Mahakal Lok Corridor and the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor — built at the site of the historic temple destroyed by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb — have been constructed under Prime Minister Modi's leadership.
Shah said the Modi government has reframed the narrative around border villages, recognising them as the first villages of India rather than the last. Through the Vibrant Villages Programme, he said, a comprehensive plan has been put in place to drive development in these areas and prevent migration.

tor across the country — from Kedarnath to Kanyakumari — would be identified and expelled from Indian soil, regardless of opposition from political rivals.
He also defended the Election Commission of India's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which opposition parties have criticised. Shah argued that a clean and accurate voter list is the bedrock of democracy, and that any compromise on its integrity poses a direct threat to democratic institutions.
Turning to state politics, Shah alleged that the previous government's tenure in Uttarakhand was marked by a series of scandals — including a sting operation controversy, a Dalit scholarship scam, a secretariat allegedly rife with commission agents, a liquor policy sting, and the Kumaon foodgrain scam. By contrast, he asserted that the BJP government, now in its ninth year in the state, has maintained a clean and transparent administration that even political opponents have been unable to fault on corruption.
Shah applauded Uttarakhand for becoming the first state in the country to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), under which all citizens, irrespective of religion, are governed by the same set of laws. He said the UCC would help address disproportionate demographic shifts, and announced that Prime Minister Modi has decided to constitute a high-powered committee to examine and respond to demographic changes — a body he said would commence its work in the coming days.
