Self defence training program held at GDC RS Pura

RS PURA, Mar 7: A two-day self-defence training program was organized on 6th and 7th March at Government Degree College RS Pura to Celebrate International Women's Day. The event was organised by the Student Welfare Committee and Women Development Cell in collaboration with the Department of Physical Education and Sports with the aim of empowering young women with essential self-defence skills and boosting their confidence. The program was conducted under the guidance of the Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Preetpal Kour, who appreciated the initiative and highlighted the importance of self-defence training for women in today's society. The Student Welfare Committee, convened by Prof. Jasmeet Kour, organised the event in collaboration with the Department of Physical Education and Sports, whose convener is Dr. Rupali Slathia. The organising committee members included Dr. Shivani Manchanda, Dr. Akrity Parihar, Prof. Vijeeta Anand, and Dr. Renu Sharma. Dr. Anupama Pandotra (senior faculty member) and Dr. Kiran Lata (ANO, NCC) also graced the occasion.
The resource person for the program was Ms. Komal Dhiman, an international Pencak Silat player, who demonstrated various self-defence techniques and trained the students in practical methods to protect themselves in difficult situations. She also motivated the participants by sharing her experiences and encouraging them to stay physically active and confident.
A large number of students actively participated in the training sessions and learned basic self-defence techniques, including methods to escape from difficult situations and protect themselves from potential threats. The program concluded successfully with students expressing enthusiasm and appreciation for the valuable training. The event proved to be an important step towards promoting awareness about women's safety and empowerment and was widely appreciated by the faculty and students of the college.
