Union Minister Ramdas Athawale recently listed the progress made by Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370. While highlighting the development initiatives the Minister spoke about efforts being made to provide employment opportunities to the unemployed youngsters of the region. During the past few years, a major focus has been laid on infrastructure, connectivity and economic growth. The expansion of national highways under Union minister Nitin Gadkari, rapid progress in railway projects and extension of rail connectivity to Kashmir, including the construction of major tunnels, reflect the Centre’s commitment towards development in the region. According to the figures provided by the officials as of March 2026, 24 lakh 37000 bank accounts have been opened in the Union Territory under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, with a fund allocation of Rs 1754.25 crore released from 2014-26, enabling greater financial inclusion. In addition, 12 lakh 79 thousand gas connections have been allotted in under Pradhan Mantri Ujjawala Yojana Yojana to improve access to clean cooking fuel. Around 25 lakh nine thousand loans, with an allocation of 54267.91 crore rupees have been provided to beneficiaries under Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana from 2015-26. As many as 35000 houses costing Rs 586 crore have been constructed in J&K under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) from 2016-26 to provide housing for all. Under Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, Rs 3638 crore have been provided from 2018-26, benefiting 19 lakh 73000 people. Around Rs 94 lakh have been released for 13 old age homes in Jammu and Kashmir from 2023-25. The assertions of the Union Minister and the figures reveal that J&K is moving at a fast pace and the Centre is providing all the possible support. The region has set an example at many fronts by topping the charts. Taken together, these figures and initiatives suggest that Jammu and Kashmir is moving forward with renewed momentum. While challenges remain, the pace of development, improved connectivity, and expanding welfare coverage indicate a clear intent to transform the region’s socio-economic landscape. Under the leadership of PM Modi, Jammu and Kashmir is gradually emerging as a vibrant and dynamic region, setting examples in several sectors and reinforcing the promise of growth, opportunity, and stability. |
