Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 17: BJP Spokesperson and former Vice Chairman Balbir Ram Rattan has warmly congratulated three distinguished literary figures from Jammu and Kashmir-Khajur Singh Thakur (Dogri), Ali Shaida (Kashmiri), and Pritpal Singh Betab (Urdu), on being selected for the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award 2025.
He described their selection as a moment of immense pride for the Union Territory. He emphasized that such national recognition not only honours individual excellence but also serves as a strong inspiration for emerging writers and poets across the region. He said that literature has always been a powerful medium to preserve cultural identity, promote harmony, and reflect the collective consciousness of society.
Highlighting the individual contributions of the awardees, Rattan said that Khajur Singh Thakur's work in Dogri literature has significantly strengthened regional linguistic heritage. He added that Ali Shaida's writings in Kashmiri vividly portray the ethos and aspirations of the people, while Pritpal Singh Betab's contribution to Urdu literature stands out for its emotional depth and intellectual richness.
Balbir Ram Rattan further said that the selection of these three eminent writers for such a prestigious national honour is also a recognition of the vibrant literary culture of Jammu and Kashmir. He expressed confidence that their achievements would motivate the younger generation to actively engage in literary pursuits and contribute meaningfully to society.
He also underscored the importance of promoting regional languages, asserting that linguistic diversity is a cornerstone of India's cultural strength. "When writers from diverse linguistic backgrounds are honoured at the national level, it reinforces the spirit of unity in diversity and highlights the need to preserve our rich literary heritage," he added.
Rattan urged cultural institutions, educational bodies, and literary organisations to take proactive steps to nurture literary talent and encourage reading and writing habits among youth. He emphasized that fostering creativity and intellectual growth is essential for building a progressive and enlightened society.
