| J&K BJP leaders entrusted with key roles in Assam, West Bengal poll campaigns | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 17: In a significant organisational move ahead of the forthcoming Assembly elections in Assam and West Bengal, several Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders from Jammu and Kashmir have been assigned crucial responsibilities, reflecting the party’s growing reliance on leaders from the Union Territory in key electoral battles. Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, Sunil Sharma, was appointed as Co-Incharge (Sah Prabhari) for the Assam Assembly elections couple of months back. His appointment is seen as part of the BJP’s broader strategy to strengthen coordination and execution at the grassroots level in the northeastern state. For the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, the BJP has named Baijayant 'Jay' Panda as the Election In-charge (Prabhari), with Darshana Ben Jardosh and Sunil Sharma serving as Co-Incharges. The leadership team has been tasked with steering the party’s campaign to secure a third consecutive term for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the state. Sources within the party revealed that several BJP leaders from Jammu and Kashmir have been working behind the scenes and have been camping in Assam for the past few months, actively engaged in ground-level preparations, voter outreach, and organisational strengthening. Despite their significant roles, many of these assignments have not been widely publicised. Similarly, in West Bengal, a number of BJP leaders from Jammu and Kashmir have been quietly contributing to the party’s election preparedness over the last several months. Their involvement includes coordination with local units, campaign planning, and mobilising support in key constituencies. The deployment of leaders from Jammu and Kashmir to politically crucial states like Assam and West Bengal underscores the BJP’s emphasis on utilising experienced organisational hands across regions. It also highlights the increasing national integration of the party’s cadre, where leaders are entrusted with responsibilities beyond their home states. Party insiders believe that such cross-regional assignments not only strengthen electoral prospects but also help in sharing organisational expertise and building a cohesive national campaign structure. |
