Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 21: Ms Bala Jyoti, Member (Law) of the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) for the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, on Saturday chaired a key conference on “Women in Electricity: Current and Courageous” during the Bharat Electricity Summit 2026.
Ms Jyoti, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion, in her inaugural address emphasized the importance of collective efforts to achieve the national vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047.” She highlighted the need to encourage and facilitate the participation of talented women in unconventional and challenging sectors like power and energy, which are increasingly becoming innovation-driven.
She stressed the importance of inclusiveness and called for greater representation of women as frontline workers in the energy and power sectors. “There must be a clear roadmap for enhancing women’s participation in electricity and allied fields,” she said, adding that recognizing the inherent strength and capabilities of women is essential for the sector’s growth.
Underscoring workplace concerns, Bala Jyoti advocated for ensuring a safe and congenial working environment at all levels. She observed that India’s power sector is at a defining juncture and called for concerted efforts to redefine and strengthen the sector in line with emerging challenges and opportunities.
The conference brought together eminent women leaders and experts from across the power sector, including a Vice- Chancellor from Dehradun, Director Transmission, and Director Market Operations. The participants held detailed deliberations on the evolving role and future prospects of women in the field of power and electricity.
The conference concluded on a positive note, with participants unanimously agreeing on the need to strengthen educational and professional pathways for women. They emphasized creating robust mentoring systems and leadership opportunities to empower more women to take up roles in the power sector.
