Jammu, Mar 24: The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Shiv Kumar Sharma, on Tuesday undertook a comprehensive visit to the border areas of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district and reviewed the security situation and operational preparedness of police forces in the region.
The DIG of Jammu-Samba-Kathua (JSK) range visited the sensitive areas in the region along with Senior Superintendent of Police Kathua Mohita Sharma, SP Operations of Kandi and Border Mukund and other officers, officials said.
During the visit, Sharma held a detailed security review and interacted with police personnel and village defence guard (VDG) members deployed in vulnerable locations, they said.
He instructed officers and personnel to maintain high alertness and professionalism while performing duties at naka points near the border and other sensitive spots.
The DIG also briefed the deployed force on the critical nature of their duties and directed them to remain extra vigilant.
All officers were further directed to strengthen naka checks, particularly during night hours, and to intensify surveillance against anti-social and anti-national elements operating along the border belt, they said.
As part of border management efforts, the DIG also met senior officials of the Border Security Force to enhance coordination and discussed various security-related issues, they said.
DIG issued directions for establishing joint nakas to improve operational effectiveness.
During the visit, Sharma distributed sweets among security personnel in view of ongoing and forthcoming festivals to boost the morale of the jawans, the officials added.
