Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 1: Prominent social activist and former Vice Chairman Balbir Ram Rattan expressed deep concern over the incidents of cattle smuggling reported from various areas of the Jammu region, terming them a serious social evil. He said that incidents of illegal cattle smuggling are being reported frequently from different parts of Jammu, which not only violate the law but also hurt the moral fabric of society and human sensitivities. Referring to recent incidents in Chenani and Jhajjar Kotli, where two major attempts of smuggling were foiled and cattle were rescued safely, Balbir Ram Rattan said that while such actions are commendable, the issue is not new. Similar cases have surfaced repeatedly in the past, indicating that organized smuggling networks are still active and require strict action. He further said that cattle smuggling promotes cruelty towards animals, hurts religious sentiments, and adversely impacts the livelihood of local farmers and cattle rearers. Moreover, such illegal activities strengthen unlawful networks, which in turn give rise to other forms of crime in society. Balbir emphasized that administrative action alone is not sufficient to eliminate this social evil. He stressed that all sections of society must unite and stand firmly against it. He appealed to the general public to remain vigilant, report any suspicious activities immediately to the concerned authorities, and cooperate in maintaining law and order. He also said that those involved in such crimes must face strict legal action and exemplary punishment, so that a strong message is sent and no one dares to engage in such illegal activities in the future. Balbir Ram Rattan expressed confidence that through the combined efforts of the administration, police, and citizens, effective control over this social menace can be achieved, leading society towards a safer and more balanced future. |
