Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 11: As the administration has set an ambitious 100-day deadline to free Jammu and Kashmir from the menace of drug addiction, authorities have intensified efforts to cleanse the system from within, focusing on “black sheep” in the
administration, particularly within the police department.
Highly placed sources said that the government has decided to expedite inquiries against police personnel suspected of involvement in drug trafficking, with a clear message of zero tolerance for any internal nexus with narcotics networks.
Officials indicated that action has already been initiated in several cases. A number of police personnel have been dismissed from service after their alleged involvement in drug trafficking came to light. Recently, a woman constable was also terminated from service following allegations of her links with drug peddling activities, reinforcing the administration’s resolve to act without bias.

estigations against several others are at an advanced stage. Authorities have prepared a list of police personnel whose activities are under close surveillance, and further action is likely based on the findings,” sources said.
The ongoing crackdown is part of a larger strategy aimed at dismantling the drug ecosystem in the Union Territory by ensuring accountability within enforcement agencies. Officials believe that eliminating internal complicity is critical to the success of the anti-drug campaign.
Sources further revealed that strict disciplinary as well as legal action—including suspension, dismissal, and prosecution under relevant laws—may be initiated against those found guilty.
The intensified internal scrutiny comes in the backdrop of the administration’s broader anti-drug drive, which seeks to combine strict enforcement with community participation and rehabilitation measures to curb the growing menace of narcotics in Jammu and Kashmir.
