Early Times Report MANDI GOBINDGARH, Apr 23: A special extension lecture was organized at Desh Bhagat University to mark the birth anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. The event was jointly hosted by the Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages and the Faculty of Legal Studies. The theme of the lecture was "Dr. B.R. Ambedkar: Constitution Making and Social Justice." The program was held under the inspiration of Chancellor Dr. Zora Singh and Pro-Chancellor Dr. Tejinder Kaur. It witnessed the participation of Dr Harsh Sadawarti Vice-Chancellor, senior faculty members, and a large number of students. Dr. Renu Sharma, in-charge of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages, delivered the welcome address and greeted the dignitaries, faculty, and students. Speakers elaborated on Dr. Ambedkar's constitutional vision and principles of social justice, urging students to draw inspiration from his ideals. Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Jaiveer Singh, Principal of the Faculty of Legal Studies, stated that Articles 17 and 46 of the Constitution are the foundation of social democracy. He encouraged students to adopt the Constitution not just as an academic subject but as a guiding commitment in their lives. Program coordinator and Head of the Hindi Department, Prof. Dr. Ajaypal Singh, highlighted that Dr. Ambedkar viewed language as a powerful tool for empowerment. He reiterated the enduring relevance of Ambedkar's message, "Educate, Organize, Agitate," and emphasized that social harmony and education are key to national progress. Presiding over the event, Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Amarjeet Singh remarked that institutions must adopt an inclusive approach rather than remain neutral. He emphasized that true institution-building lies in inclusivity, as envisioned by Dr. Ambedkar, and urged students to live the values enshrined in the Constitution rather than merely memorizing them. The program was conducted by Dr. Navninder Kaur Grewal and Prof. Dr. Ajaypal Singh. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Ram Singh, who expressed gratitude to all participants. |
