Jammu, May 16: In a sensational development that has sent shockwaves through Jammu’s security establishment, police on Friday night busted an alleged sex racket being operated by two Thai women from the rented house of a Special Police Officer (SPO) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police in the highly sensitive Kunjwani-Talab area, located close to key defence installations on the outskirts of the city. The startling discovery has triggered serious security concerns, with intelligence agencies now probing how foreign nationals were able to live and allegedly run an illegal prostitution network in one of the most strategically important zones of Jammu without attracting official attention. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a special team from Gangyal Police Station swooped down on a house in Bandhu Rakh, Kunjwani, late on Friday evening. During the raid, police detained five persons, including two women from Thailand, for their alleged involvement in immoral activities. The most shocking aspect of the case is that the alleged racket was being run from the rented residence of an SPO posted at the District Police Lines (DPL), Jammu. While Gangyal Police have registered an FIR, officials have remained tight-lipped on whether the SPO has been taken into custody or questioned regarding his possible role. Sources said the police are intensively interrogating the Thai women to trace the network responsible for bringing foreign women to Jammu and facilitating their stay and movement in the region. “Further investigation is underway to determine whether a larger organised syndicate is operating behind the scenes,” a senior police offi Police have busted an alleged sex racket being operated by two Thai women from the rented house of a Special Police Officer (SPO) in the highly sensitive Kunjwani-Talab area, located close to key defence installations on the outskirts of the city. The case has raised troubling questions within the security establishment, particularly because the alleged prostitution racket was operating in close proximity to major military installations. Officials are examining whether the women were involved solely in immoral activities or whether there were deeper security implications. Highly placed sources said intelligence agencies have taken the matter “extremely seriously,” and are investigating how foreign nationals managed to reside and work in Jammu without valid permissions or without coming under the scrutiny of security agencies. This is the second major incident this year involving Thai nationals and alleged immoral activities in Jammu, fuelling suspicions of a well-organised cross-border trafficking network. In February, Jammu Police detained three Thai women during raids on two spa centres in Narwal and Channi Himmat. On February 16, police raided a spa centre in the Narwal area after receiving credible intelligence that foreign nationals were working there without valid travel documents and mandatory permissions. During the operation, officers examined visitor registers, employment records, and other documents, and seized Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) and other incriminating material for forensic analysis. In a separate case, another Thai woman was detained during a raid on a spa centre in Channi Himmat. The spa owner, a resident of Kurukshetra, Haryana, was booked under FIR No. 237/2025 under Section 24 of the Immigration Act and Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for allegedly harbouring a foreign national without mandatory permission or prior intimation to the authorities. |
