Srinagar, June 15: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday filed a chargesheet against a Junior Engineer of the J&K Housing Board and his wife for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to their known sources of income According to an ACB statement, the chargesheet in FIR No. 18/2020 was presented before the Court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Srinagar, under Section 5(1)(e) read with Section 5(2) of the J&K Prevention of Corruption Act, Svt. 2006, and Section 109 RPC.
The accused have been identified as Tariq Ahmad Ganie, Junior Engineer with the J&K Housing Board and son of Ghulam Qadir Ganie, and his wife, Mst. Rukhsana Jan, an Anganwadi worker in the ICDS Department. Both are residents of Aalai Gund, Chandergam in Tral.
The ACB said the case stemmed from a verification into allegations that the public servant had amassed wealth beyond his legitimate sources of income. The inquiry reportedly uncovered financial transactions running into crores of rupees through multiple bank accounts.
“The investigation conducted by Police Station ACB Srinagar against the accused public servant and his wife substantiated the allegations levelled against them,” the ACB spokesperson said.
The Bureau further stated that after securing the requisite government sanction to prosecute the public servant, the chargesheet was filed before the Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Srinagar, for judicial proceedings.
The court has listed July 8, 2026, as the next date of hearing in the case.
Reaffirming its resolve to combat corruption, the ACB said it remains committed to ensuring transparency, accountability and strict action against corrupt practices in public institutions. |
