Cong infighting: Despite truce, dissidents remain under scanner as AICC panel plans Jammu visit
6/17/2026 9:35:54 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, June 17: Even as dissident leaders in the Jammu and Kashmir Congress have temporarily suspended their activities following a stern warning from the party high command, the three-member inquiry committee constituted by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) is likely to visit Jammu shortly to gather evidence regarding alleged anti-party activities and factionalism within the party.
Highly placed sources in the Congress said the committee has directed party leaders to collect authentic and credible evidence against those accused of indulging in activities detrimental to the interests of the organisation. The evidence is expected to help the panel assess complaints of indiscipline and determine the extent of internal divisions within the Jammu and Kashmir unit of the party.
The AICC had recently constituted a three-member inquiry committee to investigate allegations of indiscipline and anti-party activities in the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC).
The committee is headed by senior Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil as Convener, while Dr Amar Singh and Rafeek Khan are its members.
According to party insiders, the formation of the panel reflects the Congress leadership’s determination to address growing factionalism in the Jammu and Kashmir unit and restore organisational discipline ahead of future political challenges.
Sources revealed that the incumbent JKPCC leadership has already submitted certain material to the party high command, including video clips purportedly showing some leaders publicly making serious allegations against fellow Congress members. The inquiry committee is expected to scrutinise these materials as part of its investigation.
The panel has been tasked with examining complaints and reports related to alleged indiscipline and activities considered harmful to the party’s interests. It will also look into the circumstances that triggered the ongoing internal feud and submit its findings and recommendations to the Congress leadership.
Party sources said the committee’s proposed visit to Jammu is aimed at gathering first-hand information, interacting with concerned leaders, and verifying evidence related to allegations of factionalism and anti-party conduct.
The inquiry panel was constituted shortly after five senior Congress leaders from Jammu and Kashmir were summoned to New Delhi for a crucial meeting convened by the party high command to defuse tensions between rival groups and restore unity within the organisation.
Although dissident leaders have, for the time being, halted their parallel political activities and public engagements following intervention by the central leadership, Congress insiders maintain that the inquiry process will continue and accountability will be fixed based on the committee’s findings.
The development is being closely watched within the party, as the inquiry report is expected to play a key role in shaping the future organisational structure and leadership dynamics of the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir.
