MMM Medical Centre performs first leadless Pacemaker implantation

Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 17: In a major breakthrough for advanced cardiac care in the region, MMM Medical Centre, Jammu, has successfully performed its first-ever leadless pacemaker implantation. The complex, cutting-edge procedure was spearheaded by leading Interventional Cardiologist *Dr. Neeraj Mahajan* and his clinical team, under the expert guidance of the highly acclaimed mentor *Dr. Viveka Kumar* from Delhi. Critical anesthesia support for the landmark procedure was seamlessly provided by MMM Medical Centre's own *Dr. Priyanka Pathak*.
This achievement marks a giant leap forward in advanced healthcare accessibility for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The procedure was performed on a patient suffering from recurrent episodes of fainting and severe heart rhythm irregularities.
Unlike conventional pacemakers that require surgical incisions in the chest and long electrical wires (leads) threaded through the veins, the leadless pacemaker is a revolutionary device roughly the size of a large vitamin capsule. It was implanted directly into the patient's heart chamber using a minimally invasive, catheter-based approach through the groin, requiring no permanent surgical pocket under the skin.
Speaking on the success of the procedure, *Dr. Neeraj Mahajan* stated:
> "The leadless pacemaker represents a paradigm shift in cardiac rhythm management. Because it requires no chest incisions, it leaves behind no surgical scars, bumps, or long-term lead-related complications like wire fractures or infections. We are immensely grateful to Dr. Viveka Kumar for his invaluable guidance during this landmark case, and to Dr. Priyanka Pathak for providing flawless anesthesia support. Bringing this global gold standard of treatment to Jammu allows for an incredibly rapid recovery, enabling patients to return to normal life within days."
Highlighting the importance of this medical collaboration, *Dr. Viveka Kumar* remarked:
"It was a privilege to mentor Dr. Neeraj Mahajan and the skilled team at MMM Medical Centre. Successfully performing Jammu's first leadless pacemaker implantation proves that top-tier medical expertise is no longer restricted to metro hubs. This milestone sets a new benchmark for cardiac care across the region."
The procedure was completed seamlessly, and the patient has shown remarkable recovery, expressing immediate relief from pre-surgery symptoms.
The Management of MMM Medical Centre congratulated Dr. Neeraj Mahajan, Dr. Viveka Kumar, Dr. Priyanka Pathak, and the entire cardiac care team on this historic achievement. They emphasized that this successful implantation underscores MMM Medical Centre's commitment to providing world-class, tertiary-level medical interventions locally, saving residents from the logistical and financial stress of traveling to distant cities for specialized heart care.
