| BJP committed to restoring Punjab's industrial strength: Nabin | | | Early Times Report LUDHIANA, June 22: BJP national president Nitin Nabin on Monday said the party is committed to restoring Punjab's industrial and commercial strength and promised to create a conducive environment for industrial growth and investment in the state. Addressing industrialists during an interaction in Ludhiana, Nabin said agriculture and industry must progress together for Punjab's overall development. He said BJP's policies and leadership would help revive the state's industrial sector. Nabin said industries in Punjab are facing multiple challenges and alleged that the state government was not providing adequate cooperation to the Centre on industrial matters. He said Punjab had earned a distinct identity in the country because of its strong agricultural and industrial base, adding that the decline in industrial activity was a matter of concern. Referring to his experience during the COVID-19 period as a minister in Bihar, Nabin claimed that several industries had shifted from Punjab to Bihar. He said the state lacked a supportive environment for industries and stressed the need for a strong industrial policy, better law and order, and good governance. Industrialists from different sectors raised concerns over law and order, gangsterism, extortion and other issues affecting business operations. Representatives from Mandi Gobindgarh highlighted alleged irregularities in GST billing in the iron recycling industry and claimed that the issue was causing significant losses to the government exchequer. Members of the bicycle industry said India's bicycle production remained far behind China and sought fresh planning to boost the sector. Representatives of the agro-combine industry raised concerns over reduced timelines for certification of combines, while rice millers sought support for Basmati exports in view of rising fuel costs. Industrialists from the nut-and-bolt sector demanded a reduction in licensing fees, calling the existing charges too high. |
