While felicitating 32 talented recipients of the Kashmir Women’s Organization (KWO) Fellowship, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha hailed the fellows as symbols of Jammu Kashmir’s ongoing transformation toward a future built on self-confidence, equal opportunities and dignity for all. LG Sinha reiterated his call to empower women and stated that women empowerment holds the key to “Viksit J&K.” “I envision a Jammu Kashmir where every young girl grows up believing that her dreams are valuable, her voice is powerful, and her future holds limitless possibilities,” he said. The Lieutenant Governor also acknowledged the role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in extending equal rights to the women of Jammu & Kashmir and addressing long-standing discrimination. Legal and administrative reforms have sought to ensure that women enjoy greater equality and opportunities. While legislative changes lay a strong foundation, their true success depends on effective implementation and sustained societal support. Empowerment must go beyond legal provisions to include improved access to quality education, skill development, healthcare, entrepreneurship and safe public spaces. The need of the hour is to challenge outdated social attitudes that continue to limit women’s potential. Families, educational institutions, civil society and community leaders all have a responsibility to encourage girls to pursue higher education, leadership roles and careers of their choice. Mentorship programmes, scholarships like the KWO Fellowship and women-led entrepreneurship initiatives can create pathways for greater participation in the region’s economic and social development. The achievements of the KWO Fellowship recipients send a powerful message that talent knows no gender. Their success reflects the possibilities that emerge when determination is matched with opportunity. As role models, they inspire a new generation to break stereotypes and contribute confidently to the region’s progress. A developed Jammu & Kashmir cannot be built solely through infrastructure, investment or economic growth. Its true strength lies in the empowerment of its people, especially its women, whose aspirations and capabilities are indispensable to the region’s future. By celebrating their achievements, expanding opportunities and ensuring equal rights, Jammu & Kashmir moves closer to becoming a society founded on dignity, inclusivity and shared prosperity. Empowering women is not merely a social obligation—it is the most reliable pathway to building a confident, progressive and truly “Viksit J&K.” |
