| Capacity 24, carrying 46- FIR registered | | | Early Times Report RAJOURI, July 6: Continuing its sustained drive against the menace of overloading in Public Transport Vehicles (PSVs), Traffic Police Rural Jammu has registered another FIR against a PSV driver (Mini Bus) bearing Registration No. JK11C-7235 for endangering the lives of passengers by carrying them far beyond the permitted capacity. On 06.07.2026 during a routine checking drive at Dhandkote, the Sector Officer (Traffic) Thanamandi intercepted the said Mini Bus which was plying from Dodaj to Rajouri. During inspection, the vehicle driven by one Mohd. Farooq S/O Abdul Aziz R/O Kurhad Kotranka District Rajouri was found carrying 22 passengers in excess of the authorized seating capacity of 24 thereby posing a grave risk to the safety and lives of the passengers and significantly increasing the likelihood of a road accident. Subsequent verification further revealed that the vehicle is repeatedly involved in multiple traffic violations and has been challaned 17 times including 16 challans for overloading passengers demonstrating a persistent disregard for traffic laws and public safety. In view of the repeated violations and the grave threat posed to human life, a FIR No. 45/2026 has been registered against the driver at P/S Darhal U/S 281/125 BNS 184 MV Act. It may be mentioned that Traffic Police Rural Jammu has issued 156challans against overloading in the last one week. Similarly, the No. of challans against overloading for today are 29. The SSP reiterated that Traffic Police Rural Jammu remains committed to ensuring road safety and safeguarding the lives of commuters. He appealed to all transport operators and drivers to strictly comply with the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act warning that stringent legal action shall continue against those found violating traffic laws particularly offences involving overloading that endanger human lives. |
