Early Times Report
DODA, July 6: As part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, Doda Police continues its relentless efforts to curb drug trafficking and eradicate the menace of narcotics from society. In this regard, Police Station Assar, under the leadership of SHO PS Assar and his team, achieved a significant success by apprehending a drug peddler and recovering approximately 250 grams of Charas-like contraband from his possession.
On 06.07.2026, a police naka established on Thandapani Link Road was conducting routine checking when a pedestrian carrying a blue-coloured paper bag was noticed approaching from the Charota side towards Assar. On noticing the police party, the individual became suspicious and attempted to flee from the spot.
Acting swiftly, PSI Vikas Sharma Incharge Naka Party, along with the naka personnel, apprehended the suspect and subjected him to a search. During the search, a green-coloured polythene bag containing approximately 250 grams of Charas-like contraband was recovered from his possession.
During questioning, the accused disclosed his identity as Parkesh Kumar S/o Jia Lal R/o Kunkhad, Bulandpur, Assar. Accordingly, FIR No. 21/2026 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Assar, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the source, forward and backward linkages, and intended destination of the recovered contraband. Doda Police reiterates its firm commitment to making the district drug-free and appeals to the public to actively support the objectives of the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan by sharing information regarding drug peddling and substance abuse. Collective community participation remains essential in building a safe, healthy and drug-free society.
