| RSS raises alarm over drug abuse, seeks swift action in Ram Mandir donation theft case | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 12: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Sunday voiced serious concern over the growing menace of drug abuse in the country and the alleged irregularities in the counting of donations at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir in Ayodhya, calling for stronger de-addiction initiatives and a thorough investigation into the temple donation theft case. The issues figured prominently during the concluding session of the annual Akhil Bharatiya Prant Pracharak Baithak held in Belagavi, Karnataka, which was attended by RSS Sarsanghachalak Dr. Mohan Bhagwat, Sarkaryavah Dattatreya Hosabale, and 226 senior functionaries from across the country. Addressing the media after the meeting, RSS leaders said the gathering discussed several issues of national importance, including the growing challenge posed by substance abuse. Expressing concern over the increasing ill-effects of drugs on society, the meeting stressed the need to accord top priority to de-addiction campaigns and create greater public awareness to combat the menace. The participants also deliberated on programmes and initiatives aimed at strengthening social awareness and community participation in addressing the problem of drug addiction. Another issue that drew serious attention was the alleged irregularities in the counting of donations received at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir in Ayodhya. The meeting expressed grief over the reported incident involving the temple’s donation boxes and voiced confidence that the ongoing investigation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and the police, initiated at the request of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, would reach a logical and decisive conclusion. The RSS also expressed hope that the Trust would put in place foolproof mechanisms to ensure that such incidents do not recur in the future, emphasising that any lapse in handling devotees’ offerings could hurt the faith and sentiments of millions of Ram devotees across the country. Besides these issues, the meeting reviewed organisational activities undertaken during the Sangh’s centenary year and discussed future programmes. A review was conducted of the training camps organised across the country after March 2026. According to the RSS, 83 Sangh Shiksha Vargs and 12 Karyakarta Vikas Vargs were organised this year, training a total of 18,842 swayamsevaks in areas such as daily shakha activities, organisational functioning, village development, family awareness, disaster management, and environmental conservation. The meeting also reviewed the implementation of organisational plans at the shakha level, discussed the expansion of shakhas under the proposed Shakha Vistar Yojana in September, and assessed the progress of programmes held as part of the RSS centenary celebrations. Discussions were also held on engaging people who came into contact with the organisation during the centenary year in social service activities and the Panch Parivartan initiative. The proposed tour programme of RSS chief Dr. Mohan Bhagwat for 2026-27 also came up for discussion. The participants further deliberated on issues relating to the forthcoming Census, demographic changes, population imbalance, and programmes to commemorate the 650th birth anniversary of Sant Shiromani Ravidas Maharaj. The meeting concluded with a resolve to intensify organisational outreach while encouraging greater participation in social reform initiatives, particularly those aimed at tackling drug addiction and strengthening public confidence in institutions of national and religious significance. |
