BISHNAH, July 31: In pursuance of the nationwide campaign "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam", the NCC Cadets of 8 J&K Girls Battalion, Government Degree College (GDC), Bishnah organized a Tree Plantation Drive on the college campus to promote environmental conservation, ecological awareness, and community service. The drive witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 26 NCC cadets, comprising 10 second-year cadets and 16 first-year cadets. The programme was conducted under the patronage of Dr. Shallu Samyal, Principal, GDC Bishnah, and was coordinated by Dr. Kusum, CTO, GDC Bishnah. The event also received active support from the faculty members of the college. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Shallu Samyal emphasized the importance of environmental conservation and urged students to actively participate in initiatives aimed at protecting and preserving nature. She highlighted that tree plantation is a collective responsibility and an effective step towards ensuring a sustainable and healthy environment for future generations. As part of the plantation drive, the NCC cadets planted a variety of ornamental and air-purifying plants across the college campus, including two Croton plants, two Aralia plants, two Black Aralia plants, and one Snake Plant, thereby enhancing the green cover and aesthetic appeal of the institution. The cadets carried out the plantation in a systematic manner while adopting appropriate plantation techniques to ensure the healthy growth of the saplings. The programme was also attended and supported by Prof. Rashmi Arya, Head, Department of English; Prof. Preeti Mahajan, Head, Department of Education; Prof. Kashab Sharma, Head, Department of History; Prof. Shrotika Rajput, Head, Department of Political Science; Dr. Ashima Gupta; and Prof. Nisha, Head, Department of Environmental Studies (EVS). Their active participation and encouragement inspired the cadets and reinforced the importance of environmental stewardship. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Kusum, CTO, appreciated the enthusiasm and dedication displayed by the NCC cadets. She remarked that such activities not only contribute to environmental sustainability but also nurture the values of discipline, teamwork, leadership, civic responsibility, and community service among young cadets.
The Tree Plantation Drive concluded successfully with a collective pledge by the participants to protect and nurture the planted saplings and to continue contributing towards environmental conservation. The programme reaffirmed the commitment of Government Degree College, Bishnah and 8 J&K Girls Battalion NCC towards building an environmentally conscious society through meaningful community engagement. Photographs of the event were also taken for institutional documentation and future records.
