Census awareness Quiz-cum-Seminar organised at University of Ladakh

LEH, Aug 5: A Census Quiz-cum-Awareness Seminar was organised at the Leh Campus of University of Ladakh today with the objective of creating awareness amongst the faculty and students about the importance of Census and the upcoming last and most important phase of Population Enumeration of Census 2027 in the UT of Ladakh.
The quiz-cum-seminar was held under the overall mentorship of Prof. Saket Kushwaha, Vice-Chancellor, University of Ladakh wherein Amit Sharma, IAS, Chief Principal Census Officer (CPCO) and Director, Census Operations (DCO), J&K and Ladakh, MHA, Government of India, was invited as the Chief Guest to grace the occasion here. Senior Census officials including Deputy Director Census, Assistant Directors of Census at DCO and all faculty members and students of the University attended Census 2027 seminar here.
The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the Chief Principal Census Officer, Amit Sharma, IAS, Vice-Chancellor, Prof Saket Kushwaha, along with the Census dignitaries, followed by the felicitation of the distinguished guests.
CA Priyanka Sengar, Registrar, University of Ladakh, delivered the welcome address and highlighted the importance of engaging the student community with the Census process.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Saket Kushwaha, Vice-Chancellor, University of Ladakh, emphasised the significance of Census as a vital exercise for planning, policy formulation and understanding the socio-economic landscape of the country. He encouraged students to actively participate in awareness activities and contribute to the successful conduct of Census 2027.
The Presidential Address was delivered by Amit Sharma, IAS, CPCO/DCO, J&K and Ladakh. He highlighted the transformation of the Census process through the adoption of digital technology and encouraged students to participate in the technological advancements associated with Census 2027, including Self-Enumeration. He also spoke strongly against the menace of drug addiction, urging the youth to stay away from drugs and focus on education, innovation and constructive pursuits.
CPCO Amit Sharma also mentioned that the UT of Ladakh shall emerge as the first UT/State in the nation which shall complete the entire Census activity by the end of September this year whereas in all other states/UTs, Census 2027 activity shall get culminate by the end of February 2027 and he also exhorted upon the students and faculty of University to act as true messengers of Census 2027 to spread mass awareness about upcoming Population Enumeration phase of Census in Ladakh which shall happen between 1st September to 30th September whereas Self Enumeration for same shall begin a fortnight before it i.e., 17th August onwards here.
The programme also included the distribution of prizes to the winners of the Census 2027 Quiz, followed by the National Anthem, group photographs and high tea.
The technical session was conducted by Amit Kumar Bhargav, Deputy Chief Principal Census Officer, and Shri Rohini Pokhrel, Assistant Chief Principal Census Officer, who briefed the participants on the history and evolution of the Census, the present-day Census process, technological advancements and the role of citizens in Census 2027.
Other Census dignitaries present on the occasion included Vijay Kumar, Assistant Chief Principal Census Officer; Balbir Singh, Assistant Chief Principal Census Officer; Sadique Hussain, District Census Coordinator, Kargil and Tashi Otsal, District Census Coordinator, Leh.
The Census 2027 Seminar served as an important platform for Census awareness and youth engagement, highlighting the role of technology, Self-Enumeration and active citizen participation in the successful conduct of Census 2027.
