Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 7: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Anantnag district unit has suspended nine party functionaries and removed them from all organisational posts over allegations of organising and participating in an unauthorised Tiranga rally and making objectionable remarks against women.
The action was confirmed through an official office order issued by Anantnag district president Rakesh Kaul.
According to the order, the rally was organised on August 5 at the Housing Colony in Khannabal without obtaining prior permission from either the party’s district unit or the district administration.
The district president said prior approval from the party organisation and the local administration was mandatory for organising such rallies or programmes, but the suspended functionaries allegedly failed to follow the prescribed procedure.
The matter was compounded by allegations that objectionable and derogatory remarks were made against women during the rally. The party described such conduct as “completely unacceptable” and contrary to the BJP’s values, discipline, dignity and principles.
The action was reportedly taken after consultations with senior party leaders, including BJP state general secretary (organisation) Ashok Kaul, state general secretary Anwar Khan, state spokesperson and Anantnag in-charge Altaf Thakur, and members of the BJP Anantnag district core committee.
Those suspended and removed from their organisational positions are, Nisar Ahmad Bhat of Wangam, Shangus — District General Secretary, Khurshid Ahmad Sofi of Hasanpora, Bijbehara — District Secretary, Abida Rafiq of Achabal — District Secretary and former District Vice-President, Irshad Ahmad Malik of Gopalpora, Mattan — Mandal President, Shangus, Mohammad Maqbool Gani of Achabal, Waheed Ahmad Itu of Hasnour, Aishmuqam — Mandal President, Pahalgam, Nisar Ahmad Hakim of Dehwatu, Pahalgam — District Secretary, Feroz Ahmad Hajam of Kherchi, Larnoo — District Secretary, Kisan Morcha, and Sabruza Akhter of Thajiwara — District Secretary, Mahila Morcha.
The party has also suspended their primary membership pending completion of the inquiry, barring them from participating in party activities during the period of suspension.
Meanwhile, the party clarified that two other individuals whose names surfaced in connection with the controversy have no affiliation with the BJP’s Anantnag district unit.
According to the order, Alveer Ahmad Dar of Batengoo, Anantnag, and Fancy Akhter of Hangulgund, Kokernag, do not hold any position or responsibility in the BJP’s Anantnag organisation.
The disciplinary action underscores the party’s emphasis on organisational discipline and adherence to prescribed procedures. The BJP has also made it clear that alleged derogatory remarks against women would not be tolerated.
Further action against the suspended functionaries will depend on the outcome of the inquiry.
