Early Times Report
LUCKNOW, Aug 20: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has stressed the need for comprehensive changes to ensure the systematic operation of Jai Prakash Narayan Sarvodaya Schools. He directed, "Clear rules and regulations for the schools be prepared, the selection process for vacant teaching posts be expedited, and necessary action be taken towards the formation of a society so that the management and operation of these residential schools can be carried out more systematically."
On Thursday, while reviewing the department in the presence of Social Welfare Minister Aseem Arun, the Chief Minister sought information on the availability of teachers and other essential staff in the schools, the facilities provided to students, and the management system.
The meeting noted that before 2017, 93 Jai Prakash Narayan Sarvodaya Schools were operational in the state, while their number had increased to 103 by 2025-26. Of these, 59 schools are affiliated with the CBSE and 44 with the UP Board.
The Chief Minister said, "The process of filling vacant teaching posts in the schools should be expedited. He also directed that other necessary human resources be made available according to the academic needs of the students."
During the meeting, the Chief Minister directed, "Applications of elderly persons who are eligible for old-age pension but have so far been deprived of the benefit should be verified, and pension should be provided to them at the earliest."
He said, "Eligible elderly persons should not have to wait unnecessarily, and the process from verification of applications to approval of pension should be completed within a stipulated timeframe."
The meeting was informed that under the National Old Age Pension Scheme, the number of beneficiaries increased from 37.47 lakh in 2017-18 to 67.50 lakh in 2025-26. At present, around 11.50 lakh new applications are pending.
During the review of the Chief Minister Abhyudaya Yojana, the Chief Minister emphasized providing quality guidance to students preparing for competitive examinations and further expanding the scheme's reach and effectiveness.
He directed, "Available resources be utilized better and that the experience of the best teachers and experts be made available to as many students as possible."
