JAMMU, Aug 20: The Special Crime Wing (SCW), Crime Branch Jammu, has registered a case against Jyoti Devi D/o Kamal Singh W/o Omkar Singh, R/o Lower Muthi, Jammu, following a complaint alleging cheating and fraudulent inducement in a land investment matter.
In his complaint the complainant alleged that the accused along with her husband, induced him to invest money in the proposed sale of land at Lower Barnai, Jammu, with the assurance of higher returns. Trusting them, he paid Rs. 18 lakhs to the complainant in January 2024. Later, they started avoiding the complainant and on his repeated requests, did not pay even the actual amount taken from him.
A Preliminary Enquiry was conducted, during which the allegations were found to disclose prima facie commission of an offence.
Accordingly, a formal case under Section 420 IPC has been registered at Police Station SCW Jammu and investigation taken up.
