AMARAVATI, Aug 23: Vice President C P Radhakrishnan will visit Musunuru in Eluru district on Monday, where he will launch India's first non-Genetically Modified Organism high-expansion popcorn maize hybrid seed. Radhakrishnan will attend a programme at the Gourmet Popcornica Factory in Musunuru, where he will also felicitate farmers and address agricultural stakeholders and other participants, a PIB release said on Sunday. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will accompany the Vice President during his visit to Musunuru and jointly unveil the country's first non-GMO popcorn maize hybrid seed at 11 am. The programme, being held under the aegis of Gourmet Popcornika, is aimed at promoting value addition to farmers' produce and taking it to the market through processing and branding, with Musunuru serving as a venue for an initiative to make agriculture more profitable, the state government said. Gourmet Popcornika currently has partnerships with thousands of farmers cultivating popcorn maize across thousands of acres in the country. Its Musunuru plant has been built as one of the largest popcorn processing centres in Asia and the company plays a key role in supplying popcorn to thousands of cinema theatres across the country, the government said. Naidu will leave the camp office at 9.55 am and reach Katrenipadu in Musunuru mandal at 10.15 am. At 10.45 am, the chief minister, along with Governor S Abdul Nazeer, will welcome Radhakrishnan. He will subsequently reach the state Secretariat at 1.20 pm. |
