JAMMU, Sept 2: Government College of Education (GCOE), Jammu, in collaboration with Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), organised a plantation drive at Botanical Garden, Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu, under the initiatives "Green Jammu, Clean Jammu" and "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam."
The plantation drive was organised in response to the invitation extended by the Jammu Municipal Corporation and the Forest Department as part of their large-scale campaign to plant trees across Jammu City. The initiative aims to promote environmental sustainability, increase green cover and create greater awareness among citizens about the importance of protecting and nurturing the environment.
The programme was conducted under the able guidance of Dr. Jyoti Parihar Principal, Government College of Education, Jammu, whose encouragement and leadership motivated the students and staff to actively participate in this noble cause. The NSS Programme Officer of the college coordinated the participation of the NSS volunteers and students.
Around 50 students of Government College of Education, along with NSS volunteers and staff members, enthusiastically participated in the plantation drive. The students planted saplings and also adopted trees, with QR-code mechanisms provided to encourage their continued care and nurturing. The activity helped inculcate a sense of environmental responsibility, civic consciousness and community participation among the students.
Speaking on the occasion, the Principal appreciated the efforts of JMC and the Forest Department in initiating such meaningful environmental campaigns and emphasised that educational institutions have an important role in developing environmentally responsible citizens. She encouraged the students to not only plant trees but also take responsibility for their survival and long-term growth. |
