| Media delegation visits Chenab, Anji railway bridges, Salal Hydroelectric project in Reasi | | |  Early Times Report
REASI, Sept 2: A media delegation from Ahmedabad, currently visiting the Jammu region as part of a press tour organised by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), visited the Chenab Railway Bridge and Anji Khad Railway Bridge in Reasi district on Wednesday. The visit provided the journalists with first-hand exposure to the scale, technological sophistication and engineering features of these railway infrastructure projects.
During the visit, senior railway officials briefed the delegation on the technical, structural and engineering aspects of both bridges, including their design, construction methods and the challenges involved in building them across the difficult mountainous terrain.
The Chenab Railway Bridge, known for its towering steel arch structure, incorporates advanced engineering measures to ensure structural stability, safety and resilience under challenging environmental conditions. The delegation was also briefed on the Anji Khad Railway Bridge, India's first cable-stayed railway bridge, and its unique design and construction techniques adopted to overcome the deep gorge and steep terrain.
The officials highlighted the significance of the two bridges as key components of the railway connectivity being developed to establish a reliable link between the Kashmir Valley and the rest of the country. Railway officials informed that these projects strengthen connectivity, facilitate the movement of passengers and goods, support economic activity and contribute to the socio-economic development of the region.
The visiting journalists interacted with railway officials and sought information on the projects' planning, construction, engineering challenges, safety measures, technological innovations and operational significance. The interaction provided them with a broader understanding of the role of major railway infrastructure in improving connectivity and supporting development in Jammu and Kashmir.
Later, the delegation visited the Salal Hydroelectric Project, where officials briefed the journalists on the project's significance and its role in the region's power generation infrastructure. The delegation was apprised of the project's contribution to meeting energy requirements and supporting the development of the region.
The journalists also received an overview of the functioning and operations of the project, including its power generation facilities and other key aspects. The visit provided the delegation with first-hand insight into the importance of hydropower infrastructure in strengthening the region's energy capacity.
The visit formed part of the PIB press tour aimed at providing media representatives with an on-ground perspective of major developmental and infrastructure initiatives in the region. |
