| Teachers' play a pivotal role in shaping the future of nation: Dr Farooq Abdullah | | |  Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Sept 4: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah, in his message on Teachers' Day said that teachers hold a highly respected and valuable position in society. He said that teachers play a pivotal role in shaping the future of a nation by imparting quality education and guiding students towards becoming responsible and capable citizens. In his statement, Dr Farooq Abdullah said that the role of teachers in the field of education has remained invaluable and unforgettable. He appealed to teachers to leave no stone unturned in enlightening their students with the light of knowledge. At the same time, he urged private school owners to address the long pending demand of teachers employed in their private institutions. "It's important that the private school teachers are given due respect and salary for the services they provide." He also asked teachers to shoulder the responsibility of nurturing good character, values, culture and civility among children so that they grow into exemplary citizens and a valuable asset to society. Dr Farooq Abdullah said that the people of Kashmir take immense pride in the fact that the benefactor of Kashmir, late Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, began his career as a teacher. He said that immediately after assuming the reins of public administration, Sheikh Sahib took effective measures to accord priority to the education sector. He recalled that when Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah assumed the leadership of the state, the literacy rate was below six percent. He said that Sheikh Sahib remained committed from the very beginning to his mission of seeing the people of Kashmir educated and empowered. It was through his sustained efforts and vision, he said, that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh gradually became illuminated by the light of education. He congratulated the people of J&K for achieving an outstanding literacy rate of 98.43 percent. |
