UDHAMPUR, Sept 12: Famous Panchari 'Dangal' was held amid massive public participation near Police Station Panchari in district Udhampur.
SSP Benam Tosh ,Tehsildar Panchari Bipin Kumar & SHO Panchari Yogeshwar Kumar, Senior Educationist Yugal Kishore Verma, Renowned singer Sunak Singh & Dr Mulkh Raj Budhotia, besides former DDC member Jasvir Singh & Sarpanch Baldev Singh attended the historic 'Dangal' and felicitated top former and active wrestlers hailing from Jammu, Udhampur, Kathua, Reasi & Ramban districts.
The main bout was fought between JKP wrestler Bablu of Basantgarh and Imam Hussein of Round Domail, which was won by Bablu Pahalwan. Nearly two hundred bouts were fought in the traditional annual Wrestling Championship.
Dangal Committee comprising Rajesh Sharma Vicky, Sahas Verma, Rajinder Kumar, Surinder Khajuria, Joginder Verma & Sandeep Sharma played organising role, whereas Master Devi Ditta & Lakshman Singh functioned as Referees .
Speaking on the occasion, Benam Tosh appreciated the role of Dangal Committee for continuing the centuries-old practice of organizing most famous dangal at Panchari every year on next day of conclusion of historic Sankri Mela and appealed to the people to form committees of civil society in every village , hamlet and locality to nip drug abuse menace in the bud by organizing series of sports events. He further said that village communities have a unique power to wipe out drug menace from the society . Police-public relations would be further strengthened to combat heroin ('Chitta') threat, he added. |
