GLDM Degree College Hiranagar Celebrates Hindi Diwas

Hiranagar, Sept 14: Govt. Girdhari Lal Dogra Memorial (GLDM) Degree College Hiranagar celebrated Hindi Diwas in collaboration with Rashtra Bhasha Prachar Samiti, Jammu & Kashmir, with great enthusiasm and academic fervour. The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the traditional lamp, marking an auspicious beginning to the celebrations.
As part of the Hindi Diwas celebrations, an Inter-College Hindi Speech Competition was organised on the theme “Social Media Ke Yug Mein Hindi Bhasha”.
A total of eight students from four colleges participated in the competition and expressed their views on the relevance, challenges and emerging possibilities of the Hindi language in the rapidly evolving social media landscape.
The results of the competition were as follows: Pooja Devi from GLDM Degree College Hiranagar secured the first position, while Kanshu Devi and Ritika Sharma from GDC Samba secured the second and third positions, respectively. Komal from GDCW Kathua was awarded the Consolation Prize. Dr. Pragya Khanna, worthy Principal of the college, addressed the gathering and presented her detailed views on the theme.
She highlighted the growing influence of social media and emphasised the need to promote Hindi as an effective medium of communication, knowledge and expression in the digital age. Dr. Bharat Bhushan Sharma, President, Rashtra Bhasha Prachar Samiti, Jammu & Kashmir, also addressed the gathering. He expressed his concerns regarding the present status and future prospects of Hindi and stressed the collective responsibility of students and educators in strengthening the language.
The speech competition was adjudged by a distinguished jury comprising Dr. Anupama Sharma GDC Samba,Dr. Mukesh Kumari GDCW Kathua and Dr. Bandana from GLDM Degree College Hiranagar, who evaluated the participants on various parameters including content, presentation, language proficiency and overall impact. The welcome address and proceedings of the programme were conducted by Prof. Rakesh Sharma, HOD, Department of Hindi, who also highlighted the significance of Hindi Diwas and the relevance of the competition’s theme in the contemporary digital era.
