UDHAMPUR, Oct 8: The District Udhampur Softball Championship 2026-27, organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council with the technical support of the District Udhampur Softball Association, concluded successfully today at Subash Stadium, Udhampur.
Minga Sherpa, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, who has transfered as Deputy Commissioner Jammu was the Chief Guest at the valedictory function and declared the championships closed. Sh. Tarsem Sharma, District Youth Services & Sports Officer, Udhampur and Sh. Suraj Bhan, Manager, Subash Stadium, Udhampur, graced the occasion as Guests of Honour. Several sports promoters and eminent dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
More than 280 athletes from various registered Clubs, Schools and Colleges of Udhampur District participated with great zeal in Sub-Junior (Boys & Girls), Junior (Boys & Girls) and Senior (Men & Women) categories.
In the prestigious Inter-Division Women Softball Tournament held under 'Nari Shakti Abhiyan', Kashmir Division emerged as the Champion by lifting the trophy, while Jammu Division secured the Runners-Up position. In the district categories, Udhampur Royal Softball Club dominated by lifting the titles in both Sub-Junior and Junior categories.
The Chief Guest appreciated the concerted efforts of the organizers for conducting such championships, stating that these events will definitely boost the morale of the participating athletes. He also congratulated the J&K Sports Council and the District Softball Association for promoting Softball, a sport that is included in the Olympic Games and has immense potential.
Later, the Chief Guest distributed medals and trophies among the winners, runners-up and second runners-up teams in all age groups and encouraged the players to further hone their skills in this potential sport.
The Championship was sponsored by the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council.
