| Congress has become a tool of Anti-India Forces: Khatana | | | GANGTOK, Nov 4: November, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha (Nominated), and senior BJP leader Er. Gulam Ali Khatana strongly condemned the Congress-led INDI Alliance for what he termed as its persistent attempts to create political instability, spread confusion and disturb the atmosphere of peace and harmony in the country by politicising issues of national importance. Khatana said that instead of playing a constructive role as a responsible opposition, the Congress and its alliance partners were increasingly indulging in divisive politics, misinformation and deliberate obstruction on crucial matters concerning national security, governance and the country's democratic institutions. He said that issues such as the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and other important national matters were being unnecessarily politicised by the opposition for narrow electoral gains. He observed that electoral reforms and the maintenance of accurate voter lists were essential for strengthening democracy and ensuring free and fair elections. However, whenever the government undertakes measures to improve transparency and accountability, Congress and its allies attempt to create apprehensions among the public instead of engaging in a meaningful democratic discussion. On the Citizenship Amendment Act, Khatana said that the legislation was intended to provide relief and a pathway to citizenship to persecuted minority communities from neighbouring countries. He alleged that Congress had deliberately misrepresented its provisions and attempted to mislead people, particularly vulnerable communities, through politically motivated narratives. "The Congress party has lost its political direction and is increasingly behaving like a tool in the hands of forces inimical to India's interests. Its repeated attempts to create unrest, question every national initiative and exploit sensitive issues for political mileage raise serious questions about whose interests it is actually serving," Khatana said. He further stated that the INDI Alliance appeared to have made opposition to the government its only political agenda, irrespective of the consequences for national unity, social harmony and institutional credibility. He said that democracy provided every political party with the right to disagree, protest and question the government, but such rights must be exercised within the constitutional framework and with a sense of responsibility towards the nation. |
