PMDP funds for flood relief mismanaged, reveals audit

Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 13: Audit has pointed out several flaws in allocation of funds under Prime Minister’s Development Package meant to compensate the flood affected businessmen in Kashmir. According to the audit report the then PDP-BJP government had diverted Rs 4 crore from the Prime Minister’s Development Package to the beneficiaries who were not covered under the scheme. The report has pointed out that Rs 4 crore were distributed among 903 women without any source of income, among the owners of the damaged houses and State Disaster Relief Beneficiary fund. The audit report has pointed out that the government had already sanctioned funds for the beneficiaries falling under this category then how come the money meant for interest subvention scheme meant to flood affected businessmen was diverted for other reasons. It has recommended that the official responsible for misusing the funds should be held accountable. Another flaw which the auditors have pointed out is that many traders were illegally benefitted. Youth, who had applied for these posts in 2019, said, “The first notification for the recruitment was issued in March 2019 and 1350 posts were announced. Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 13: The water metering project in Jammu has turned into a flop show with over whooping Rs 1.98 crores rendered unutilized and unproductive. The CAG report has maintained that against a target of 15,000 households and 1,500 locations, installation and removal of domestic water meters and ultrasonic flow meters was done at only 7,107 households 47 per cent and 817 locations 54 percent, resulting in incomplete study besides non achievement of objective of preparing a comprehensive NRW reduction plan consequently rendering expenditure of Rs 1.98 crore as unproductive.
