Modi takes on Pakistan
8/12/2014 11:39:56 PM
Lauds jawans, officers for rendering great services Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Aug 12: Coming down heavily on Pakistan for abetting terrorism and carrying out proxy war in the state, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi today said that the neighbouring country has lost guts and will to fight a full-fledged conventional war with India. Addressing officers and soldiers of Indian Army and Indian Air Force at Leh, Prime Minister said that security forces have suffered losses due to the cross border terrorism in the state and not due to any conventional war. He lauded the role of security forces in maintaining peace and said that despite adverse circumstances the security forces personnel have done a commendable job. "As on date, Pakistan has lost the will power and guts to fight a full-fledged war with India. They are resorting to different means to create trouble in the state. Our neighbouring country is carrying out a proxy war in order to demoralize our brave jawans who are discharging their duties in a professional and able manner on the border," said Modi. The Prime Minister said that...

Omar snubs Manmohan Singh, bemoans inauguration of projects by PM Modi
Big complaint'
8/12/2014 11:38:52 PM
Rustam JAMMU, Aug 12: NC working president and J&K CM Omar Abdullah has, it seems, lost his way. He is making statements which even a greenhorn in politics would avoid to avoid embarrassment and keep doors open for patch up or to join hands in case it is needed. In politics, nobody is a permanent enemy and nobody a permanent friend. Equations change as the situation changes. But Omar Abdullah is one leader who would not appreciate these realities and adopt an approach that would only humiliate him and lower his position in the eyes of the people. Yesterday, Omar Abdullah, who had served in the BJP-led NDA for a couple of years as MoS, expressed his unhappiness over former Prime Minister ...

Modi's severe critic Lal Singh set to embrace "untouchable" BJP
Politics of opportunism
8/12/2014 11:38:12 PM
“This man had predicted that Modi would never become PM” Bharat Bhushan JAMMU, Aug 12: With complete disregard to ethical and political principles, Congress leader Lal Singh, ex-MP and a one-time contractor, is all set to embrace BJP, which he once considered "untouchable". A severe critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he now plans to ride Modi wave. His is the perfect example of political opportunism which has the connotation of a lack of integrity. Modi was the most hated face for him till a few weeks back but when he learnt that Congress had shut all doors on him and decided against fielding him and his wife Kanta in the upcoming state elections, he took a U-turn and, to the surp...

8/12/2014 11:37:12 PM
Akshay Azad JAMMU, Aug 12: The brazen extent of corrupt practices resorted to by Principal Government College for Women Parade Prof. Hemla Aggarwal could be gauged from the fact that during her tenure as Principal Government SPMR College of Commerce, she had made payments to the tune of Rs. 1.40 Lakhs for a pirated software, cost of which was not more than Rs. 50. Defunct again on Aug 18!
8/12/2014 11:36:57 PM
Syed Junaid Hashmi JAMMU, Aug 12: With State Accountability Commission again going headless on August 18, questions are being asked as to why not shut down this commission which even after 11 years of its existence has miserably failed to make an impact. They are asking why not to close down a commission whose functioning has been marred by State Government's reluctance to appoint members and concerted attempts of bureaucracy to weaken it. None of the recommendations of the accountability commission have made any impact on the Government functioning. Most of these recommendations have been stayed by the High Court. Cases against IAS, IFS and IPS officers have been handed over to the Stat...

Insensitivity marks J&K's public transport
On its way out, Coalition Govt failed to spare a thought for senior citizens, physically challenged
8/12/2014 11:32:37 PM
Bivek Mathur Jammu, Aug 12: In another example of utter insensitivity of the NC-Congress coalition government, senior citizens and physically challenged persons have not been extended any concessions in public transport. Most other states including Uttar Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Odisha along with Union Territories have been offering concessions to disabled and the senior citizens traveling in public transport but Jammu and Kashmir is yet to frame a policy in this context. Gujarat has been offering hundred percent concessions to its blind and other challenged citizens besides offering free transport for the escorts with the differently able persons. Forget governance, meet delegations for votes
Election ghost haunts politicians
8/12/2014 10:56:36 PM
Shakeel A Khan SRINAGAR, Aug 12: It appears that the ghost of elections has been haunting the people in power as their only business these days is to meet the delegations of the people instead of providing good governance to the people. The offices of the ministers are abuzz with the election related activities and the commoners watch all these things happening helplessly. The only achievement of the government this year has been the decoration of the selected walls around the secretariat in the summer capital. The government machinery is seen active in and around the secretariat, leaving the commoners to bite the dust who have been completely neglected by the people in the corridors of...
