Vital records dying imminent death in Muhafizkhanas
Beyond Govt's hyped claims of digitization
8/11/2014 1:10:54 AM
Abodh Sharma Jammu , Aug 10:With hyped initiative of the Omar Government to get the land records across the state digitized, nothing significant has been done on ground, and with the land records stored in medieval fashion decaying in the Muhafizkhanas, thick and fast, people are being subjected to gross inconvenience. The records dating back to Vikrami era, which is often requisitioned by the Revenue officers while processing applications for the issue of Permanent Resident Certificates (PRCs), have succumbed to the decay of time and even that which is available and legible, has been so ill kept in the dark, sultry and unventilated halls of Muhafizkhanas, that most of it is hardly traceable and revenue officials are reaping silver out of the helplessness of the seekers. "For twenty days I have been coming here daily to get the copy of the record of my ancestral land, but each day, the officials here tell me to come the next day," said Malkiat Singh, a fragile septuagenarian. Malkiat is not the only one being tortured at the Muhafizkhana, there are scores of others who trav...

Cong can't blame NC alone for misgovernance, misdeeds
Unholy Alliance
8/11/2014 1:08:40 AM
Neha JAMMU, Aug 10: Senior Congress leaders on Saturday held the mal-administration, bad governance and misdeeds of the National Conference (NC) squarely responsible for the humiliating defeat of the Congress candidates in Jammu and Ladakh in the just-held Lok Sabha polls. The nature of the defeat of the Congress could be gauged from the fact that even former J&K CM and Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad lost his election to the BJP with a huge margin. Top Congress leadership castigated the NC leadership during the one-day convention of party workers at Kathua - convention which was addressed, among others, by AICC general secretary and in-charge J&K Ambika Soni, JKPCC chief Saif-ud-Din ...

Congress learnt no lesson from poll debacle
8/11/2014 1:08:14 AM

8/11/2014 1:07:50 AM
Rustam JAMMU, Aug 10: The entry of Dr Karan Singh's elder son Vikramaditaya Singh into the People's Democratic Party (PDP) on August 8 at Jammu has created an interesting political situation, particularly in the Nagrota assembly constituency. Jugal Kishore Sharma of the BJP represented this constituency between October 2002 and May this year. Jugal Kishore Sharma (presently Member of Lok Sabha) defeated Dr Karan Singh's younger son Ajatshatru Singh of the National Conference (presently MLC) and other candidates, including the Congress candidates, both in 2002 and 2008.
