Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Apr 21: In a major embarrassment for the state government the District Development Board (DDB) meeting of Bandipora district after it was found that officers of the district are not taking the legislators in confidence.
Reports said that as soon as the DDB meeting commenced the legislators belonging to opposition parties voiced their protest and said that they are being taken for granted by the officers at helm in the Bandipora district. The legislators said that it is better to hold the DDB meeting in their absence.
The legislators who raised a banner of revolt over the holding of DDB meeting were Mohammad Akbar Lone and Nazir Ahmad Gurezi of National Conference and Usman Abdul Majeed of Congress. Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Yasir Reshi of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seemed to be least bothered over the reservations put forward by legislators of opposition parties.
Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Molvi Imran Raza Ansari who is the chairman of DDB Bandipora listened to the point of view of legislators and assured them that their grievances would be looked into. Ansari pulled up the officers of the district and asked them to take into confidence the legislators irrespective of their political affiliation.
It would be in place to mention here that the venue of the DDB meeting for Bandipora was changed from the district headquarter to the Sher-I-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) Srinagar. The decision in this regard was taken late in the evening on Friday.
The venue was shifted following apprehension that flashflood might hit the Bandipora district after large scale rainfall in Kashmir valley on Friday. However, the weather got better today but by then the venue had been changed with regard to the holding of DDB meeting of Bandipora district.
An official spokesman said that the chairman of DDB today directed Deputy Commissioner Bandipora to reconvene the DDB meeting, which was held here today, as development draft plans for the district were not properly vetted.
"The minister, who is also the Chairman DDB Bandipora, called off the meeting as the draft plans prepared by various departments were not properly vetted by concerned lawmakers of the district which is a prerequisite for development plan formation," said the official spokesman.
The minister underlined that the decision was taken to uphold the sanctity of the Board. He asked all the concerned Heads of Departments to direct their subordinate district and sectoral officers to get the draft plans properly scrutinized by the concerned lawmakers, said the official spokesman.
He said the meeting was attended by Deputy Speaker Legislative Assembly, Nazir Gurezi, MLC Yasir Reshi and MLAs Mohammad Akbar Lone and Usman Majid and senior officers of various departments.
