Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 21: Around 200 air conditioners have been reportedly running illegally in the hostels of Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu for last four years, putting extra burden on the exchequer.
However, a warden of the hostel, wishing not to be named, said that Post Graduate (PG) and Under Graduate (UG) students are being charged more than Rs 5000 for the facility every year. Notably, the permission for installing new ACs has been restricted by the Hostel Committee.
Sources in the GMC told Early Times that the management has failed to stop power pilferage for last more than four years. Moreover, more than 200 unauthorized ACs have been running at hostels, causing huge revenue losses to the college.
"In 2015, the then Principal of GMC had constituted a four-member committee for inspection and verification of UG and PG hostels. The team was headed by HoD Physiology Dr Sunil Sachdeva," sources said.
The committee members had found that then hostel manager had allowed various students to install the ACs without following proper channel. The manager of boys hostel had given patronage to indiscipline and violators, which was evident from the large number of illegal ACs installed his presence, sources said.
"But unfortunately, the administration of the hospital had ignored the all recommendations made by the advisory committee and failed to take any action against the defaulters till date," sources said, adding that due to this huge revenue loss was caused to the exchequer.
Principal of GMC hospital Jammu, Dr Sunanda Raina was not available for her comment.
