Newly elected MC members face 'life threat' in Valley
10/14/2018 10:55:46 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 14: The newly elected members of municipal councils and municipal committees are facing life threat in the Valley due to rise in militancy related incidents. They have kept their fingers crossed and are hoping that government would provide security cover to them.
Sources said after threatening people to boycott ULB and Panchayat elections the terrorists have turned their guns towards the political activists. Just a few days ago two NC activists were gunned down by the terrorists in Habbakadal area.
Fearing the onslaught of terrorists, some political activists withdrew from contest at various places in the Valley giving a chance to BJP and Congress candidates to register their victory unopposed. However these elected representatives have been exposed to terrorist threat and this way their life is in great danger in case Government fails to provide security to them immediately, sources added.
They said BJP representatives have approached Government demanding adequate security to the elected members of MCs in the Valley so that they can discharge their responsibilities without any fear.
In case Government fails to provide adequate security to them these members would not be abel to come out and work for the welfare of the people.
This way the entire election process will prove to be a futile exercise and militants and separatist will get a chance to establish their writ in the Valley. To break this the Government has to strengthen security forces and destroy terrorist modules active in the Valley to make it clear to the masses that no one with a banner of revolt against nation will be tolerated.
Sources said such a quick and bold action will send shivers in the separatist and militant camps.
Sources said this high time for Government to take a drastic step to curb terrorism in the Valley.
Sources said BJP leader Sofi Yousf who is also vice president of the party and PN Pandit party in charge for Bijbehara and Mattan constituencies have also pleaded before authorities to provide foolproof security to party candidates in Valley facing terrorist threat.
